On Wednesday the 10th of December 2008 at around 3:00pm it began snowing in Houston, Texas. It started out as some minor flurries. At around 8:00pm or so, it really began to come down thick and fast. A real snow event in Houston! It lasted until 10:00 or 11:00 before the snow stopped and began it’s slow melting process. By morning though, it was all gone. It was fun while it lasted. At least Myles got experience snow for the first time and play in it for a little bit.
Snow in Houston is a rarity. It doesn’t happen that often. When it does, it’s usually pretty weak and doesn’t last long at all. Well, this one didn’t last long but it was good while it lasted. In a short amount of time, most houses, yards and cars were already covered. ‘Twas a nice sight, even in the dark.

This is part of our back yard. Total aftermath was a whole lot more of this. Some thoughts- we were really lucky compared to many in the neighborhood, having an iphone would be great right about now! This is part of our back yard. Total aftermath was a whole lot more of this. Still alive! Lots ofdowned stuff in yard. Too dark and crazy outside to assess. Without power since midnight .Still alive! Lots ofdowned stuff in yard. Too dark and crazy outside to assess. Without power since midnight .
So it begins….
At my little corner of Houston, we are now starting to get consistent 30mph winds with gusts that are higher. No rain yet, but it’s coming. Galveston is now starting to really get beat up and the eye has not even hit yet.
One thing that makes me really happy….. I already had plywood! I bought some last summer just in case. Nice.
Anyway, all is good so far at the Minter household. Just some nice wind at this point. The real drama begins later tonight. Guess who will be up all night keeping and eye and ear on things. It’s all exciting and scary at the same time.
I’ll do some updates depending on how long I have power. I took some “before” pictures of our house all boarded up. Hopefully the “after” pictures will look the same!
Hang in there, I know we will…..
